Summary

Donald Trump’s second inauguration drew an estimated 24.6 million television viewers, the lowest audience for a presidential inauguration since Barack Obama’s second in 2013.

Viewership declined compared to Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration (33.8 million) and Trump’s first in 2017 (30.6 million).

Fox News led coverage, averaging 10.3 million viewers during the swearing-in and speech, while other networks saw smaller audiences.

I didn’t watch a single minute and I didn’t give a single shit about the coverage of it.

Democrats should’ve followed AOC and not even attended.

Anyone else notice how political participation has been reduced to a consumption activity and pulling a lever to the left or the right? It’s almost like there’s a great big spectacle, and we’re all just hypnotized by the spectacle, and it’s alienated us from our surroundings and reality into mere spectators and automatons neutered from having an effect on our material conditions. Somebody should write a book about that, named something like, “Society of the Spectacle”.

The problem is morons who thought there was any way out of participating in the genocide. Your choices were either Harris who would rubber stamp arms sales to Israel while using them to bring them to the bargaining table in an effort to try to stop the slaughter or Trump who is going to supercharge the genocide until every Arab man woman and child in Gaza is dead.

And both of them are completely beholden to AIPAC who, thanks to Citizens United, dump football fields full of cash into our electoral process. People talk about Russian election interference but Israel’s been interfering in our politics for decades.

Can you all shut up with your genocide support justification bullshit. There is no moral or humanitarian plan behind arming a genocide. You are the Nazis, right next to the Republicans, you don’t give a shit about anyone except yourself, you brush aside the mass murder of millions of people in the last two decades all in an effort just to whitewash your hypocritical political identity. I have heard enough of your disgusting rationalizations for a lifetime. I literally want nothing to do with your society anymore except for maintaining my survival.

who is going to supercharge the genocide until every Arab man woman and child in Gaza is dead.

Palestinian. They’re Palestinian. Not “Arab”. “Israel” uses “Arab” to erase their identity. Notice how you do it too, Mr. “Political Expert”.

The problem is morons who thought there was any way out of participating in the genocide.

You participated. I didn’t. Explain to me how the fuck it falls on me that you voted for someone who committed genocide, and they committed it. What the fuck does that have to do with me? I get roped into responsibility by screaming “fucking stop it” for two years, doing everything in my power to stop it? No, fuck you. You’re responsible. I didn’t pull the trigger. I didn’t fucking cheer on the guy pulling the trigger, or the guy who handed him the gun. I’m back here watching with sheer horror, knowing every single idiotic fucking mistake in your brains that resulted in this. You try to pawn it off on me because of this imaginary fucking difference you’ve been sold between the morality of two people who are both behind a genocide, acting like genocide is an INEVITABILITY for a society. Do you not understand how fucking insane what you just said to me is? Yeah, of course the people in a society that’s committing genocide believe it’s inevitable, because if they had a fucking ounce of sense, their society wouldn’t be committing genocide. 300+ million people, who collectively have the power to do anything, to make their society ANYTHING, but their brains are so fucked and manipulated they think they MUST support genocide, they MUST support their rulers who want to commit genocide, because otherwise it’d be “genocide plus another 5-10%”. And actually try to convince people that the people committing that genocide really have good intentions! Yeah, sure, you’re not fucking brainwashed at all! And anyone who has a moral problem with genocide, well, they must be paid off by Russia or China or Iran, or hey, maybe it’s even Ireland or Portugal. Because every brainwashing narrative needs an enemy figure responsible for trying to propagandize you with the truth.

Learn to read. I was in absolutely no way justifying genocide. But I live in the real world where the consequences of people’s actions exist and not a Fantasyland where good always prevails and fighting the good fight wins in the end. The evil won and it’s in no small part due to people not acknowledging the reality of the situation.

But hey, go sit happy on your soap box, it’s not you and your family being exterminated. It’s not mine or anyone else on these platforms. You know why? Cause Israel has blocked Palestinians from using the internet. These people are going to die in the dark and it’s your fault.

I read what you wrote and responded to it. You are justifying support for genocidal politicians. People like you are the only reason this is happening. Of course you have some fucking excuse, of course you want to blame everyone but yourself. Of course your declaration of compromised morality is prefaced with “I live in the real world”. No, you don’t. You’re a slave to your fears and manipulated by your rulers. You have no idea what accepting reality is like. The power of the people is beaten down into being dictated their political choices by their rulers, and your “solution” is to pick one of the two choices, instead of reclaiming that power. You have chosen subjugation with no vision on how to get out of it, with full knowledge of the mass murder that results.

These people are going to die in the dark and it’s your fault.

The icing on the cake, weaponizing their genocide in a failed attempt to try to make me, what, feel bad? They’re human beings, not a rhetorical object for you to win internet points. This is why I say it’s so clear you don’t care about them at all. If their lives and deaths actually had any meaning to you you would be finding any way to make their genocide STOP. But you quit before you even started.

If I hear his droning groggly voice going off about some fake shit, I usually snap and tell whoever to shut that shit off. It’s unbearable. The guy sounds how I imagine anyone would after a 40+ years of Quarter Pounders and Diet Coke, he’s probably way over his fair share in carbon emissions from his diet alone.

I thought I could tolerate reading quotes of him but it’s a mess every time. Whatever schools he attended failed him greatly.

And it’s even worse when he reads from the autocue. It’s like he talks himself to sleep, he loses energy after speaking more than 2 bigly words in a row. That’s probably why he always interjects himself with some dumb catchphrase to wake himself up.

I’d like to support content creators. They work hard, deliver their dream. And early on, a large delivery network is desirable! But if that provider enshitifies beyond my threshold, they are dead to me.

    So set sail!

Hey just a word of advice, if shit hits the fan unless there is an immediate threat its generally better to stay in place. Even if folks dont know you they may know of ypur car, house, general sounds and what not which will possibly make them more likely to offer aid if needed. Also folks are gonna be a lot more wary of outsiders in times of trouble.

We’re strongly considering West Europe. We have a few contacts there that might alleviate the move. I’ve been holding out because I don’t believe in running from Nazis, and I’m still conflicted about it. I know that any meaningful action I could take would land me in jail forever, or worse, and I don’t want my kids to get the boxcars. It might be better for my family to just immigrate.

I’d love to immigrate to South America, but it looks like it’s a bit more difficult for us than West Europe, interestingly.

I can understand if you don’t want to give up your homeland. I would only leave Germany as an absolute last resort either. Then i would probably try to flee up north to the Scandinavian countries.

But I have to say, looking at the situation in the States, without wanting to sound overly dramatic, there is a good chance to think it’s already reached the point of no return and best is to gtfo now. I mean, at least from the outside perspective, it looks really really bad.

Of course! And i think German is not that difficult anyway. Since English is a Germanic language, it’s relatively easy for many people who already know it to learn some German.

I’m afraid the main problem would be the housing crisis. e.g. i’ve been without my own place for over 2 years. Have to sleep on a couch at a relative’s small appartement. I basically occupy the living room.

I hope this problem can be solved over the next years. Of course, the right-wingers promise exactly that. And their solution is “get everyone out who is not like us”.

Oh, i had a very nice french neighbour at my old place. She was singing french chanson in a café i was a regular in. There was also a Franco-German friends’ association that met there from time to time.

Especially in southern Germany (but actually almost everywhere), French or French-speaking people are quite widely represented and very welcome!
