Just heard on the news today that Luigi is probably going to spend a lot of time in the hole because I guess people want to kill him. And that makes him safer, how? He’s already in a prison cell it doesn’t get more locked down than that.

they really ramp it up by prohibiting books or other media. that’s basically the next level of solitary, because there has to be further layers of punishment built in. that and the fact you only get flavorless “nutriloaf” aka bread and water, modern form.

so just a featureless room with only your mind to occupy you for possibly a lifetime, or long stretches (weeks, months) if being used as a punishment. and if you lose it they just beat the shit out of you and possibly tie you down in a restraint chair.

i can see how people lose it just to create a sense of time by fighting with the guards

Fucking heartbreaking. Honestly I don’t even wish it on my enemies the capitalists because I at least have a shred of empathy.

yeah. the capitalists i would be happy putting on house arrest or something.

or preferably, just give them compassionate in-patient treatment for their very obvious socially destructive mental health issues. teach them to acknowledge other humans as real beings again. help with their obsessive hoarding behaviors. lessons on what they’ve done to hurt people.

then determine if they will be dangerous to society and work on their reeducation and integration. some may never be able to leave, but they deserve to live enriching lives even if segregated from the population

because I guess people want to kill him

None of the people that want to kill him are his fellow prisoners. Solitary probably just makes it easier for them to do it.

The real reason is of course to fuck him up in every way they can.

  • Free and good USA still uses solitary confinment.

Authoritarian and bad Soviet Union forbade the use of handcuffs in prisons.

From От Тюрем к Воспитательным Учреждениям (Ot Tiorem k Vospitatelnim Utchrochdeniam) [From Prisons to Educational Institutions]

«для действительного осуществления исправительно-трудовой политики режим в местах заключения должен быть лишен всяких признаков мучительства, отнюдь не допуская применения физического воздействия: кандалов, наручников, карцера, строго-одиночного заключения, лишения пищи, свиданий заключенных с их посетителями через решотку».

    DEEPL:

“for the effective implementation of the correctional labour policy, the regime in places of detention must be devoid of any signs of torture, by no means allowing the use of physical force: shackles, handcuffs, punishment cells, strictly solitary confinement, deprivation of food, visits of prisoners with their visitors through the bars”.

    Google Translate:

“for the true implementation of correctional labor policy, the regime in places of detention must be devoid of any signs of torture, not allowing the use of physical force: shackles, handcuffs, punishment cells, strict solitary confinement, deprivation of food, meetings between prisoners and their visitors through bars.”

I still want a full english translation of this book

I know it’s a no shit moment, but you got fucking Anders Breivik who mass murdered children chilling out in a dorm room with a ps5 then you got Luigi who’s going to spend years starved to death in solitary for taking out what should be considered a valid military target.

My brother was in for unarmed robbery, spent over a third of 6 year sentence in the hole. I was already disgusted with our prison system but after having experience with it…barbaric doesn’t even come close.

I don’t want to say public defenders are worthless, its a really important job, but his was entirely unhelpful. And he made the number one mistake of getting arrested in the US, he was poor. Guess he was lucky he didn’t make the other major mistake, being born anything other than white.

He was very much on the spectrum and I know it messed with him in weird ways. He was way more insular and after a few months out for some reason he decided his family was the cause of all his problems and basically never talked to us again.

From watching a lot of prison documentaries in my younger years: it absolutely does get more locked down than that. There’s a lot of time in which the cells are just unlocked and inmates can wander around and play cards and shit. Even in high security bad murder guy prison.

Solitary confinement is torture, multiple studies and just having empathy have proven that multiple times.

I don’t think torturing someone to protect them from being stabbed is a good idea but technically it does the job.

I’m used to hearing stories about prisons being on lockdown all the time and people being confined to their cells so I didn’t know.

It’s fucking evil is what it is. Two summers ago I was at a rehab function and there were prison abolitionists there getting people to sign a petition to end solitary in my city and I don’t think it ever passed.

Yeah they are on lockdown every time someone breaks the rules basically so yes, they spend a lot of time in the cells. I have to be careful because the brain worms in prison docs are deep but it seems like all a coordinated effort needs is a few minutes to get someone stabbed. Hand signals and Morse code to communicate during lockdown is common.

I’ve not been to prison and am fully willing to accept I’ve been fed fiction from these documentaries. Not sure why but when i was like 21 i would just hit the bong and watch hours of that shit
