This completely slipped under my radar until the other day I was listening to a movie podcast and they were praising it. This was really good and original. It’s a PG-13 horror, but that didn’t matter at all. Not gory at all, but full of suspense and interesting scenes. Kaitlyn Denver puts in a strong performance, despite only having a couple lines. Actually, there’s almost no dialogue in the entire movie, which is a little gimmicky, but didn’t hurt the movie at all. It’s basically about a woman who lives alone and her home gets invaded by aliens and she has to defend herself. There’s a lot more going on but I don’t want to give it away. I hope some of you have watched it and join the discussion. I found it very enjoyable.
I just saw this too and thought the scenes played so well with the lack of dialogue. I enjoyed the aliens as they weren’t very typical Hollywood aliens. I’d rate it 8/10 and suggest it for any sci-fi thriller lovers
Agreed, interesting how you thought they

weren’t typical hollywood aliens. Grays are the classic hollywood alien. The typical design going back to the 50s.
The size of their limbs was very different though
This is true. Some theories I’ve seen that I actually agree with are
spoiler
The grays were being controlled by the throat parasite things as well.
What do you think?
Oh they definitely were. I saw it as the throat parasite was the dominant species and the grays were their former hosts. Humans were there new host.
It was really good though
Yes agreed, I loved it. Kaitlyn Dever is going to be a star I think
I really enjoyed it too
Nice, any specifics or other thoughts?
No spoilers
ok, thanks for participating…i guess
Fantastic movie, I especially liked the body horror aspect they used with the ETs, the way they moved and the huge long limbs etc.
Spoiler time though, I reckon it was all the parasites. The only way they can survive and propagate is by assimilating new hosts, that’s why there were a bunch of different ET species but they all looked uniform and they were all sexless too because the bodies are just vessels for the parasite, they have no need to reproduce. Also why the ETs didn’t care she ganked those other ETs, the parasites escaped and there were plenty of new hosts to be had, it was only when she tried to crush the parasite that they got angry.
And the end bit where the ETs are talking about what to do with her and that ET’s throat is vibrating, it’s because the parasites are discussing what to do with her and not the hosts. The tall classic ETs are powerful telekenetics so it would stand to reason they’re equally powerful telepathics too so they wouldn’t need to talk vocally.
So I reckon the parasites cooked up the “perfect world” shown at the end to keep the humans minds docile while the parasites piloted their bodies around, assimilating new species.

This is exactly what I was thinking too. The parasites were just using the Grays as well. Like the first one she kills, the parasite crawls out to escape.
Hey new to Lemmy, how do I spoiler tag?
type:
::: spoiler [spoilertext]

This is the text you want hidden
:::would display:

Thanks! So I’ll say if we’re doing evil advanced aliens we better see what you bring to the table with interesting alien technology! And I don’t think they disappointed
!the different ways the tractor beam was used was awesome, felt like I was in Destroy All Humans lol. Both against her (the battle pot getting bent in half against the way, holding her in place as the alien shows off it’s tentacle ball) and in her favor (snapping the possessing guys back, bruh). I was a little confused by the parasites purpose, I get controlling the humans but we see it crawl out of the first alien too, I guess that implies they’re being controlled too but there’s no real direction I see that thread went unless it’s just supposed to be a hidden extra scifi bodyhorror detail. I really didn’t mind the no talking thing either, I get it has some small hitches but it makes sense given most of the story is her alone, makes her feel alien to the world + she doesn’t have to talk to herself during the attacks I thought they blended the practical effects well, and they aliens look solid for being cgi. I’m sure there’s plenty little green men movies out there but this is is the first I’ve seen donit in a mostly “grounded” way, has some war of the worldsiness but makes the most of its compact movie areas!<
Lol, I don’t know what the point of asking how to do spoiler tags when you just used Reddit’s version anyway, which doesn’t work here.
That being said. I loved the tractor beams as well, especially the red one on the ceiling. Yeah, they don’t really explain the parasites motivations, but it still worked for me.
I realized the lemmy app I’m using has a spoiler tag hotkey, seemed like it worked for me 🤷 does the > ! ! < like you said to do. Did it not work on your end? Maybe I’ll let the dev know…
Yeah, the apps don’t show up the same as the default Lemmy web version as far as I know.
does the > ! ! < like you said to do.
I didn’t say to do this. I said:
type:
::: spoiler [spoilertext]
[spoiler goes here]
:::That is how Lemmy’s markdown is done. You can see the formatting on this page. Looks like you’re using Sync and yeah the spoiler hotkey is how Reddit did it. It works in the app but doesn’t on Lemmy’s website and probably some other apps.
