Man I knew this would bring out the trolls.

How is an arbitrary list of people able to rile folks up so much? If you think Green or Cox deserves a place on a list over some of these other people: MAKE YOUR OWN LIST, you could do it with just as little effort as it takes to criticize someone else for contributing content.

Don’t know why your getting butthurt over ppl critiquing content on a website thats built around creating and engaging with content and their creators.

This is like getting pissed ppl don’t like your painting after hanging it in gallery. You don’t want ppls opinion leave your shit off the internet

But, hey, I got my NDT gripes but I am 100 A-OK with him on here. This random meme from the Interwebz.

It’s hard to blame Niel entirely but the newer Cosmos was terrible. Nothing of substance and way too much talk about religion. I don’t mind Niel but he can really be an insufferable cunt irl

Anyone criticizing with “why do you put x on there but not y” allow me to introduce you to creating your own original content, you can put whoever you want on a picture! It’s within your power!

I suppose that might direct the attention of people like you towards yourselves, and that would be awful wouldn’t it?

Maybe think on the previous line a bit before you post your criticism, and ask yourself why you haven’t made and posted the list the way you’d like it to be.

Reminds me of people harassing the Ladybird browser devs for declining a PR that changed “he” to “they” in the build steps. If you really cared, you would make meaningful contributions to the project before virtue signaling on a text file

Edit: as an aside, I know of an open source project that is only one or two steps away from being affiliated with Nazis. A transgender woman started contributing and now all those Nazi friends respect her. That’s how you actually change minds - not by Reeing with zero effort.

I understand that I have a parasocial relationship with the guy seeing that I’ve never actually met him and I’ve been watching his content for well over a decade but the sheer amount of work that he has put into educational content speaks for itself. He and John are also a big part of my journey out of a cult and into acceptance of my queer identity. If anyone deserves praise for helping people learn, it’s Hank and John.

That’s understandable - I’m sure some of my celebrated creators would rankle a bit for you as well. I just never really could watch any of their content. When I thought it was an interesting subject and watched, I wouldn’t make it long.

What did he teach? How to jump on any crocodile? How to annoy every animal? This guy was laughed at in Germany, I still wonder what makes him a hero in the US.

Maybe this message got tainted a little by the fact, that he wasnt able to respect the animals. Whatever, may just be different cultures. Here we show love to nature by silently watching the animals, and to try not to interrupt them to much, but that doesn’t make for a exciting tv-show.

He wanted to touch them, yes. He said, “look at this [typically feared and/or reviled animal]!” And he’d hold it and look into its eyes and share the with the camera (metaphorically, with us) and say “She’s a beauty!”

It’s not David Attenborough, I’ll give you that. It’s very much hands-on, and I can see how that could be misinterpreted.

If you actually watched any of his show, or any of his zoo displays, you would know that he spent much more time discussing the details of the wildlife and their habitat than just “jumping on crocodiles”, including relocation/rehabilitation and the effects of man-made habitat distraction.

man made habitat distractions seems very ironic in his case. But I guess we only got the crocodile jumping parts over here. They actually made me hate this guy… Nice to hear, that he wasnt just a guy doing everything for some views.

How is it ironic when he essentially does the same as catch, tag, and release like scientific researchers do but with a camera pointed at him? The animals aren’t harmed and their habitat isn’t destroyed, they’re just inconvenienced for a few minutes

      Sagan as Tyson’s predecessor

I assume they include Sagan as Sagan.

He deserves to be in the image as much as anyone else in it, and definitely several orders of magnitude more than Tyson.

We need to hold people like these in high regard as a society not the constant rotation of pop stars. Funny thing is I can’t think of any women that belong on this though most of my teachers were women and they had a profound effect on my life. Dr Ruth Westheimer maybe?
