In case you’re wondering, like me, what the whole story is here:

    https://abc7chicago.com/loretto-hospital-chicago-strike-seiu-heathcare-news-near-me/13576487/

    The strike demands are:

    • Increased pay
    • Increased staffing
    • Better working conditions

Loretto Hospital is on the west side of Chicago, a bit north of Cicero, near Cicero Ave and I-290. I’m quite sure that it serves mainly lower income patients, who are more likely to have longer-term and/or more serious issues (because they have less access to regular wellness visits) and less ability to pay hospital bills (for obvious reasons).

I would suspect that if the management of the hospital is willing to take advantage of its own employees to the point that they go on strike, they may be willing to take advantage of their patients - people who don’t have the economic or social power to be able to stand up to the hospital - eithe financially, or by cutting corners in patient care (part of which is the striking employees’ complaint), or both.
