A Reddit post called the picture “red fash”. I admit that it is controversial, since one may read it as mocking peaceful people who are not muscular, but on the other hand I think it is worthwhile to promote physical strength equally with mental strength and class consciousness. I bet that Specnaz, the special forces of USSR, were not formed from physically weak people. Maybe the picture is seen as a struggle between ideas of the “new left” and AES. What are your thoughts?

No country’s special forces are, nor were, tbh. And I agree that physical health and even strength should be promoted equally with mental strength and class consciousness, too. “From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs” still holds true, but these things also have a tangible benefit, not merely for society, but the individual. Any developed society failing to promote these things, and failing to help people reach towards their desired, best potential is neglectful if you ask me.

I say that as someone who is deeply unfit ATM, someone who is I guess presently disabled (my relationship with that is complicated and I’d rather not get into it), etc… no one wants to be sickly, “helpless,” “needy,” etc. People also tend to want to have the dignity of standing on their own two feet, and the fulfillment of pursuing their various goals and projects, or contributing to their community. I think it’s a core part of human nature.
