Download the .deb from their downloads page and run it, just like you would either a .exe on Windows. Their instructions list that as an option further down on the page. Should be higher up imo

I feel you there. I’m just about at that point, although I also need better support for music software (FL studio, VSTs, etc) and hardware before I can fully switch.

Some users are even going as far as to switch to a new browser.

As someone who changes browsers regularly on a whim, I love how big of a deal this is to the average person.

Passkeys are asymmetric, meaning that the server only ever sees your public key. If the server gets breached, then only your public key is leaked, which isn’t a big deal. Functionally, it’s almost identical to SSH keys.

Open Media Vault (OMV)! I was given a used QNAP NAS, but didn’t want to use their OS. TrueNAS has higher system requirements than what I had and Unraid is paid. OMV has been a dream! Having the flexibility of a full Debian OS, but also with the prepackaged software I need, it amazing. Plus, I love the web UI. At the time of writing this, I have 12TB of usable space with 3 months of uninterrupted uptime.

As for different use cases, you can create different “vaults” for different applications. For example, I have a vault for work, and a vault for personal. They’re basically just different folders on your computer, but it helps keep differentiation.

They can still track you by other data such as IP, user agent, and system info. I don’t know that they’re doing this for sure, but I have a hunch that they are. It’s google lol

It’s a different business of theirs, but they also basically run the internet with AWS. Avoiding all of amazon essentially makes the internet unusable unfortunately…

Most people have an extra computer of some sort for these things. An old laptop or PC can run Linux very well, and most self-hostable services are not very resource intensive.

Gotta weigh in here and say overwriting comments like that can hurt the end user more than it hurts Reddit. A lot of traffic to Reddit is intentional, with posts and comments showing up in search results from ddg/google. I know I’ve found my own posts from troubleshooting the same issue years later. Sure, delete/overwrite comparatively useless comments and posts, but leave up other useful content and use an ad blocker instead. That will hurt them more than deleting content, but still allow others to find the info they need.
