They have an interview process that combs over, not sure actually…
Anyone who wants to see it https://www.project2025.org/
If you read the PDF that they gave it’s terrifying. Talking about applying to be a Loyalist and only they get federal appointments…and replacing real people in the government.
I got a disk of suse Linux from a library book. I put it on my laptop and it worked-ish.
I didn’t know what partitions were so I messed up my laptop pretty bad. But I learned more in that little bit than my undergrad degree.
I really liked the port, but after they fixed all the bugs. When it first came out it would crash on any steamdeck /Linux systems.
The music is fantastic.
Are you near Fresno? If so, you can always get a free meal over at the Poverello house. You can also get a food bag. https://poverellohouse.org/what-we-do/food/emergency-food-bags
I used to volunteer over there. Great place.
As far as prices go, you can get a big 25 pound of rice/beans for less than 20$ over at Winco. Back when covid happened it lasted my wife and I about a year on both. It gets boring, but it works.

Dungeon Crawler Carl - Matt Dinniman
Audio - Jeff Hays
www.soundbooththeater.com makes some great works. Its fun to read the series and then hear Jeff do an excellent job afterward.
For government work, I stumbled into it. A friend got me the foot in the door. I really wish I could give you better advice on that but thats the truth. Its really flipping hard to get a job in my local gov area. Gov pay can be bad but it heavily depends on what/where you are. I make around -15% less than my last place, but I get a pension after a couple of years, so it evens out. Plus I dont feel like im selling my soul for a couple of bucks.
For non-profits, I simply searched for them on linkedin/indeed and found a couple in my area looking for software devs. The interview process is about the same as any other place, but they did take a look at my GitHub profile more than some others. At least when I got started.
So just like anything:
Hope that helps!
I felt like that until I started working for a couple of non-profits and then later government. My job actually makes people have a better time in life. Its kinda nice nowadays.
What’s interesting is that multiple trackers are now saying it’s above 4 percent. Last time something was posted, people questioned the data and where they got their data (which they should). Now there’s multiple sites showing a real increase.
Steam Deck or the miyoo mini plus with onion os would be my picks. I have both and they both scratch an itch in a different way.
I think its just the ASCII chars for his website domain.

Its a lemmy (and a host of other) TUI client. I like the look and performance. GH link is here: https://github.com/mrusme/neonmodem
My muscle memory just finally got used to ip addr lol.
I was about to say, if ip was read only…
Back when we worked it, the app saved so much time and helped explain so much.
Ive never seen this, thanks! This made my day.
I tried making it work for a month! I even tried to hack it to put retro stuff on it. My tiny gaming pc at the time had better capabilities and was easier to work with…so I gave up on that too. Tried to use the controllers (they were Bluetooth, they could technically work with other machines) but they lagged and felt terrible.
Interesting, I have that setup, but then again I have an official system 76 machine that is still supported. I have three monitors with one rotated for dev work/teams (ugg).
I might be the minority, but as long as they are stable and I can work with my programs, thats all I care about.
I use my pi to experiment, but I use PopOS as my daily driver nowadays.
I’ve had a good track record with PopOS.
Steam works with about 90 ish percent of my games and all the software I use, there’s a Linux version or proton can run it. Plus the OS is rock solid.
Loved that video back when I was contracting. I paid a lawyer to draft up a standard contract and that was the best thing I ever did. Great value for the $$s. Saved my butt a couple of times.
