I used to do a fair bit of Delphi (pascal) coding and really liked it. I agree with readable, type-safe and oop, I’m not so sure about modern and truly cross-platform. My .02$.
Hmm… interesting you mention terminal really slow to open up. I still experience this also - the first time I open a terminal (only), and only if I try to open it shortly after I boot the machine. I’ve tried several times to find out why this is, but without success (without a terminal it’s hard to find out what’s blocking the terminal…)
The other thing I dumped was the latest Ubuntu Studio Chromium install, because it installs a snap, which is laggy to fire up, which also drove me crazy. I use the Mint chromium build now, which is a real native build, not a snap, and works great.
Ubuntu Studio (XFCE desktop). It’s not the fanciest desktop, has one or two rough edges, and there are one or two tweaks I make right away on any new install, but I can get most things done without thinking about the OS at all now.
I like the UI eye candy of KDE, but I find it too weighty for an everyday use distro.
I used to use Debian plus XFCE, but it’s a bit too spartan for me these days.

Would be wonderful to sneak a peak at a historical analysis from ++50yrs: either it’s Putin’s masterstroke, or he’s struggling to tamp down prima donna Prigohzin with his buddy Lukashenko’s help. Occam’s razor would certainly point to the latter.
That’s exactly right. I imagine Putin & his lackeys are very busy indeed right now. Just I would definitely not count him out like many articles seem to be.

Yeah you may be right, I even hope you’re right. But I don’t think Putin cares about saving face in the west.
I would guess his biggest challenge would be keeping the Belorussian people in line. I know little about the country, I should probably read up!
Good point, but Putin plays the long game, I suspect this is strategic manoeuvring for 12-18 months from now.
Ha, I’d rather take odds on Lukashenko “falling from a window” - I seem to remember he was reported as “seriously ill” a few weeks ago, plus if I remember Putin was pressuring him to attack Ukraine, and he refused.
Get rid of L. and Putin can install Prigo. and they will work together on Ukraine. Scary.
