  • I don’t think I’ve solved the worlds problems. But apathy is what’s killing us and if we don’t even try to put in the work to find solutions we won’t find them. I’m not trying to speak in catchphrases and I’m not even sure which parts of my speech I’m referring to. Regardless of how you feel about it I’m going to keep putting in the work to politically motivate people to awaken to that our modern conveniences don’t need to be as disposable as they are, that neocolonialism is sapping the world of its resources to enrich the 1%, and that we can’t expect better if we don’t do anything at all. I would love to hear your ideas too. But the biggest thing is we can’t do better if we don’t even think about how to do better. It all starts with envisioning a better world and then working towards that

  • For clothing we can target natural fibers like wool and alpaca fleece. These offer superior durability with many of the same moisture wicking properties as polyester. Some people won’t be able to afford these nicer clothes on their income. We can address this by taxing the rich, providing more social safety nets, and raising the minimum wages. For single use plastics we can start asking if packages at the store really need cling wrap protecting the cardboard box. We can also question if those cardboard boxes really need glossy packaging. Another major source is single use plastics bottles and drink cups from fast food. We can deal with a lot of this by figuring out why so many people don’t consider their drinking water safe, and then making their drinking water safe.

There. There’s three things I was able to think of off the top of my head. But you wanna know something? It starts with saying “there’s a problem, and we need to do something.” So I say to you again. Why do the big petrochemical companies need little old you to step in and protect them? Do you really think there’s just no other way forward than to destroy the world, or do you lack so much imagination that when someone says you should be trying to reduce or avoid something, you need them to go into exhaustive detail about what a future without that thing could look like?

  • For sure. But I saw a ton of non Texas democrats interpreting his loss as that there was no way a Democrat could ever win in Texas when it was like… "Dude, he was really close while actively running a bad campaign for the state he was running in. Stop trying to court moderate Republicans and start picking up the black and gay voters out there (who in Texas are gun owners, so maybe don’t campaign on guns)

  • Really needs to focus on the social issues Texans care about. Texans are generally very in favor of public welfare programs and environmental protections. They just don’t tend to vote democrat because they do also tend to be pretty universally pro-life (not great) and pro-gun (my position on this has shifted slightly, my current stance is I don’t agree with either political party’s positioning) and the Democrats they’ve run have fallen into the Republican trap of focusing on the wedge issues the republicans choose to focus on. I cannot emphasize this enough: if the republicans are making a big stink about something, its a distraction for the thing they’re ACTUALLY interested in. Are you a Democrat who wants to win in Texas? Don’t step out putting gun rights and abortion front and center. You will lose. No matter how appealing you are to a Texan, you’re not as appealing as the people who’ve been siphoning up votes with these as their only potions. A better plan is to talk about how you’re gonna bolster social welfare for women and infants and how you’re going to reduce inflation and interest rates.

God its been so frustrating watching the Democrats dash themselves on the Beto O’Rourke rocks over and over. 1) Beto sucks, in general 2) he extra special bonus sucks for running in Texas

  • Texas is far more politically complicated than most Americans realize. Gains in Texas are proportionate to politicians running on platforms that matter to Texans. Hopefully if Cruz gets voted put the Democrats learn a valuable lesson about how to win in Texas. My concern is they’ll take all the wrong lessons and take the win to mean it’s time to double down on the old losing strategies.

  • Let this be a reminder not to use Authy or Google Auth or Microsoft Auth if you can help it. Your best bet if you can help it is a Yubikey or Nitrokey. If you can’t far better to go with Aegis or Ente Auth. If you need easy sync across devices, Aegis has that, but most of the security experts I know recommend going with 1Password as your MFA solution with sync. I personally don’t trust 1Password as a for profit corporation, but I also accept I don’t get paid to know about computer security to the degree that an actual security expert is

  • And that’s why its important to prefer internet services hosted in particular companies. The English legacy of law has been very poor at keeping society safe from corporations because these laws were established when the British Empire was a vast trade corporation with an inbred person as CEO by way of the pope said Jesus wanted that family to be in charge.

What’s crazy making is a lot of the places the British destabilized the indigenous people had very advanced methods of ensuring society benefited everyone. Not all of them of course, but enough of them that its hard to see the English legacy of law practice as anything other than fundamentally broken and not worth the amount of spread it was forced to have at gunpoint. Like when I hear about how Iroquois nation justice worked I can’t help but feel something truly special was lost by way of colonists wanted to profit off beaver pelts

  • Still. The DNC has systems in place to decide who to back in elections to pass legislation. Their messaging since 2015 has been embarrassing. They keep courting moderate conservatives that don’t exist and ignoring unrepresented potential voters who do. They talk about how they win elections when there’s good turn out without ever analyzing which candidates encourage high turnout. Americans want to feel represented in politics and we don’t. The Democrats need to do something that would weaken the democrat party but would weaken the Republican party more: they need to actively begin dismantling the two party system. We want election reform. We want the police to not be a hostile force against the general populace. We want the society we live in to benefit everyone and not just the kinds of people who can afford to finance an election campaign.

The polling exists. We all know that neither party represents or enacts what the people want do. The Democrats refuse to look around and see what’s happening, preferring to rearrange the deck chairs as the ship sinks because that’s the only thing they know to do. And you know? I can’t really blame them. We the people have also been rearranging the deck chairs. We live in a country that only benefits the top but we all still show up to do our duties without looking at what’s going on in other countries where the people are standing up to their authoritarian oppressors.

The worst part is the fascists know what they’re doing. They know to decay the structure by raising the temperature because we’ve become too complacent. We need to stand up to fascism in a way that we haven’t ever since McArthyism.

  • Having no masters would be exactly the aim. Ultimate power should lay in the hands of the people and government should only exist to serve the will of said people. I don’t fully know what that should look like but I can say for sure we’ve tested a lot of ideas that aren’t that, and that we should try some new things because what were doing now isn’t working.
