I think pushing the first black VP aside could go more poorly than people expect. Whether or not we like Harris (I don’t), shes been a loyal VP this whole time and I can’t imagine she’s going to like having her only shot at the big chair taken away from her. I think keeping Harris as VP no matter what is the best path forward. You keep some continuity, you don’t really piss off any voters, and you keep everyone unified. A unified front is the only possible way any of this will work. If everyone fractures and infights until November we’re still fucked.

It’s also much easier to get things done with broad public support. You get broad public support by announcing the things you plan to do. The GOP uses every level of power they have to block any and all attempts at progress, so until we get off our asses and vote enough of them out, “what we plan to do” is the best we’re going to get a lot of the time.

Okay I get that you don’t find those particular changes to be good enough, and I would agree with you. That doesnt make them lazy, and they’re still the best chance we have. And you’re completely ignoring the structural obstacles that they literally don’t have the votes to overcome, even if every single Democrat in Congress agreed.

If we had given the Democrats a fillibuster proof majority and the White House for more than 2 months in the past couple decades I’d agree with you. But we haven’t done our job well enough here, just as much as they haven’t done theirs well enough. Framing the entire party as a lost cause and ineffective without looking at all the reasons why only hurts us.

ETA: I do believe the ACA and the IRA were absolutely worthwhile and have positive benefits. Just because you don’t like parts of the bill doesn’t mean they aren’t.

It should be mentioned that the people he appointed to the NLRB have been hugely positive for union activity and power. Even with the railroad thing (which they did end up getting concessions on) Biden is still the most pro union president in our lifetimes.

They also passed the largest climate bill ever.

Can you point to a someone who hasn’t? Congress routinely increases military spending without the military even requesting more funding.

I get that half measures don’t feel like wins, but when half the government is controlled by people who want to destroy it, they are. If we want sweeping legislation that fixes more issues, we have to strip enough power from the GOP to make it possible. Until we do that, half measures are really all we can hope for. We elect people because of their platform, and then we don’t give them enough votes to pass legislation. I’m not saying the Democrats/Biden are flawless here, but we have to live in reality.

And this is exactly where you would most likely find evidence of “unofficial actions”. The president is not personally going out and doing these actions themselves, they’re using their administration. All those communications are now inadmissible. They tried to make it seem like they weren’t fully siding with Trump, but they absolutely are.

That would require Democrats to vote with high turnout for Senate and House elections.

Instead we’ll give them a razor thin majority and complain when they don’t pass sweeping legislation that requires the GOP to sign on to.

50 votes that includes Joe Manchin, Sinema, etc in the Senate is not control. The last time they had an actual fillibuster proof majority they passed the ACA, which would have included a public option if they had another vote. And that period where they had control lasted a few months, not years. The idea that Democrats don’t pass legislation when they aren’t being blocked by the domestic terror cell they have to work alongside is completely ahistorical.
