I assumed it was global… What do you use in the US?
Grapefruit from the supermarket must always taste of grapefruit.
Perhaps a new community is called for; something which encourages earnest thinking and open discussion but is not hardcore technical philosophy. I think it should be called ‘interestingthoughts’ or ‘thatsinteresting’ or maybe even just ‘thoughtful’. There is already ‘showerthoughts’ but that seems to be a bit more humour-based than what you’re talking about.
I would enjoy reading and replying to posts on it and posting to it myself too. I haven’t started a community on Lemmy before and I’ve got quite a bit on my plate at the moment, so I don’t think I could take it on as a mod alone but if you want we could try doing it together. Let me know what you think :)
I agree that it can look like people are self-promoting and seeking prestige on social media. I find that following hashtags on Mastodon is a good habit for sidestepping this. It shifts the focus to topics rather than identities. The same goes for Pixelfed. I’ve got a beautiful feed on Pixelfed made up of different types of art and photography that I like.
Don’t take it to heart and remember that there are other posts/comments that received way more downvotes, my own included! I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a rough time online. I’ve appreciated this post though and you’ve had some upvotes, so I’m sure others have too.
Watership Down
I’ve seen plenty of films but that one tops my list for ones that shouldn’t be watched by kids.
I sometimes post thoughts/questions and usually get some interesting discussion, so it is worth it. I think I also prefer seeing other posts like this. I think that the reason for seeing more posts which are links is because a) it’s easier and b) most online content is somewhere on the clickbait spectrum and the result of that is manifested here on Lemmy much the same as it would be anywhere else.
Edit: Also, I’m upvoting your post because I think you are essentially calling for firsthand thoughtful discussion, which is a good thing for everyone.
I had to learn to remember this within the dream and to forcibly wake myself up from it to stop this happening. Which I think is quite an accomplishment, if I may say so myself.
I suspect it goes back to wearing nappies/diapers as a baby. Babies naturally try to wait until they are unclothed to relieve themselves; they essentially have to learn how to go in a nappy, or else let it happen because they can’t hold it in any longer. Then they have unlearn this with potty training. It’s crazy really.
It’s all fucking tire kickers anyway.
I had an instance recently where it was faster and easier to literally make an item with my bare hands than to coordinate a purchase of one via marketplace.
It’s a strong tradition in France that when you get pissed off with a company you take its CEO hostage.
It seems to be really effective.
There is some good reading to be had that explains the specific roles that different groups of former Soviet elites were allowed to fill within the corrupt power vacuum that followed the collapse.
Can you recommend any good books? I haven’t studied Russia much but recently read Killer In The Kremlin and would like to read more.
I only used it to do occasional stuff to my photos that simple photo editors cannot do.
I’m aware I’m not properly answering your question here but it sounds like you might be better off ditching Adobe and using something like GIMP or Krita. I went through a period when I was struggling with my cracked version of photoshop and not getting anything done and discovered it was much more efficient and relaxing to spend a couple of hours learning GIMP.
If you’d rather use photoshop that’s fair enough but I thought I’d just share my experience and offer a nudge in a different direction :)
Looks good, subscribed and will be posting there 👍
I think spending all of it on feeding people who are starving. You could keep a lot of people alive on a million, even if it was just for long enough to give them a second chance on their own. And even if that second chance failed, then at least all of the goodness of those people would have more time to be in the world.
Cavespider sounds hardcore.
That sounds like a massive pain in the backside.
