No doubt you’re right about some middle management and I see this said a lot. Anecdotally I don’t believe I’ve met any middle management that want to be back in the office. If I’m honest I don’t think I’ve ever met middle management that enjoys middle management, it’s a ton of fucking stress keeping senior management happy with heir batshit detached requests and interpreting it into something moderately sensible so individual contributors can be productive and actually achieve the shit that needs done.
Meanwhile Steve can’t seem to wrap his head round the fact that just because he likes formatting his code a particular way isn’t a good reason to ignore the team coding standards, Cheryl and Sushant have decided to book expensive holidays for the same week without clearing the leave first - so I’ll be spending Christmas supporting the app on top of everything else even though I booked it off in the system in January and ultimately I hate this fucking job because I can’t do the thing I’m actually fucking good at.
They were all basically at it, it’s the only way the emissions and performance numbers could be hit.
Is there anything that would prevent some kind of proxy stripper? I’m thinking something that loads the page with a clean agent, strips out the shit and serves a nice clean page?
Definitely beyond pihole as it stands, but doable.
GIMP + Inkscape UI refresh and I’d fund the shit out of that.
They are absolutely the driver in this market, like it or not.
I am all US American this blessed day
I personally use piCorePlayer on a raspberry pi which is basically burn an SD card which gives you a squeezebox (basically a client) there’s a couple more steps to get lms running on top of that but the instructions are pretty good: https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to/install_lms/
Official docker image seems to be here https://hub.docker.com/r/lmscommunity/logitechmediaserver
You’ll want to install the “material skin” too if you do get it running, it’s a pretty modern front end:
https://github.com/CDrummond/lms-material
Official forum is packed with info too:
Yeah! The squeezebox software is still out there too, it’s a sudo apt-get get away in something like it Ubuntu and just works (though does commandeer the audio on any pc you do that on by default)
Logitech Media Server (LMS)/slimserver may tick a lot of your Roon requirements.
Tech tangents?
It’d be nice if I could get a 64G model in the UK.
Not to mention how long it takes a big org to migrate, even between versions of rhel. I’ve seen 6 -> 7 migrations happen inside the last month.
It’s like someone has told them there’s no karma and they’ve misunderstood. Also kind of misses kbin and Lemmy are federated.
Something has definitely gone screwy and we’ve definitely not gotten the balance right - but equally I’d tend to agree that QoL has substantially improved since the 70s. Air quality, many medical advances, many more people in less labour intensive jobs, safety and quality of products has also improved substantially. General societal attitudes towards women and minority groups is better as well as all the tech and toys.
Housing is messed up and there’s seemingly been a shift towards the rich, the taxes imposed on the wealthiest in society has been reduced and income inequality has increased. We may or may not be more stressed (I tend to think we are) and capitalism in general has shifted from worker first to shareholder first.
The stats above definitely don’t tell the whole story either, doubling productivity while reducing price, for instance, may increase access to a product to consumers with no net gain to the company and while this is almost certainly not the case in every scenario, it just shows we can’t just cherry pick stats blame all of society’s ills on them.
You can just go get Unity or UE right now. With UE you can make a $1million before you need to pay a royalty and the tooling is substantially better than any of the tools id released back in the day. (And fwiw I think it’s a crying shame id tech engines are no longer open sourced too!)
By that logic shouldn’t they just shut down the instance? There’s nothing to stop anyone posting direct links to piracy in any comm
