You can join the group at #reading-group:genzedong.xyz (an encrypted room), either through the GenZedong Matrix space (see this post) or by asking for an invitation in this thread.
It won’t require intensive reading/listening; it should be doable for anyone who works or studies full time. We’re currently following a study plan from China, but we can add recommended texts (decided by vote)

for anyone else reading this, the problem was that @sovietsnake was part of the old GenZedong space (genzedong.org), which has been defunct for a few months now – you have to join the space on genzedong.xyz instead (or ask for a direct invite if you just want to join the discussion group)

I don’t know what “In Defence of Marxism” is, but it’s not related to the discussion group. As stated in the post, you need to either ask for a direct invitation here (which includes posting your Matrix username), or join the Matrix space as described here
I was able to make an account on the website but I can’t login on the iOS element app. I get an error saying “Cannot find a server at this URL, please check it is correct.”
On what homeserver did you register, and did you enter the same one in the app? By default it’s all matrix.org
I registered on genzedong.xyz, I tried a different app (Syphon) and that seemed to work. Not sure what’s going on with element
