Hey folks, nice place we got here.

I’m wondering if any of y’all landcrabs got any recommendations for audiobook streaming/torrent sites? DDG and Bing seem to be under the claws of Amazon now for some reason.

Cheers

Audiobookbay has a lot. So does Mobilism. There are private trackers you can look into, but I am not to acquainted with those. Also use Yandex cough for reasons

I second this. Can find pretty much any (English) book I’m looking for on here.

MAM is pretty good, but I find ABT to be a little better.

They do have a slightly annoying “you must read your PMs in order to download” thing so setting up Prowlarr without browsing the site actively is harder.

I know this isn’t the point of this post but let me just say public library services provide an insane amount of audiobooks and you can find lots around the country to use through apps like Libby, that combined with audible freebie offers. I have been able to get everything I have looked for… Just mentioning

In the same vein as not really piracy but still free audio books. Librivox is a service (with android app) that lets you listen to audio books are that are in the public domain, read by volunteers for free. If you haven’t tried the original Sherlock Holmes series by ACD I highly recommend it!

Can highly recommend myanonamouse. It’s a private tracker and you’ll have to do an interview to join during one of their allotted time slots and show that you’ve read and understand their rules, but their library is unparalleled, well worth the effort if you’re into audiobooks or ebooks!

I don’t know if it still works but this tool could get books and download them. I realized I prefer reading books and haven’t tried it in a while so no guarantees.

I prefer reading too, but for books that my library doesn’t have I have to either read them of my phone or listen to them. Reading off of the phone is a big eye strain for me. I’ll give it a try, thank you very much!

I’m new to downloading audiobooks - what apps do people recommend for listing to these on an android?

I use Simple Audiobook Player by mdmt. I like it, because it browses the directory-structure and is pretty minimalistic.

It has two pretty bad shortcomings

      • it is not FOSS (one of maybe 3 non-FOSS Apps I use)
      • playback speed control is a pro feature.
      • can not play .wav

It has a pro version, but never brings it up (no nagging).
