MONTREAL – Just over one year after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, a new poll suggests a growing number of Canadians believe it’s time to reconsider the country’s ties to the monarchy. Data re...
Well as I said previously, the money is just the cherry on top. The actual basis for getting rid of the monarchy is that it’s an institution with no real legitimacy. Our figurehead is a charlatan.
We have to get rid of it because it’s entirely unjustifiable that a ‘royal’ family exists regardless of the actual power that they wield. We’ve long moved past the concept of divine right of kings, there is no ethical basis for this institution. Those are the grounds on which it must be got rid of. That they are powerless money sucks that do nothing for us is just the cherry on top.
This is the original goalpost. The money talk was a side track the entire time.
You moved to money after it was pointed out they have no “power” and needed a different argument.
Your “grounds” don’t exist… they don’t pay them money… do you even know your point?
And again, thanks for proving all of points explicitly, you are the exact person my comments are directed at, you don’t comprehend how our monarchy works!
I didn’t need to move to money at all. I explicitly noted that financial concerns were just a bonus on top of the real reason the monarchy needs to go, which is that it’s an illegitimate institution. The ‘get a job’ bit was a rhetorical flourish.
How is it an illegitimate institution when it holds no power?
Your rhetorical flourish just shows you have no concept of the issues at hand mate… you clearly don’t comprehend how the monarchy functions and are only here to argue your bias and rhetoric.
If you’re not here to have a conversation, why the hell are you here?
We don’t pay them though….
Thanks for proving my point mate!
It would cost us money to remove them while it costs us nothing for them to sit there.

That figure comes from a pro-monarchy group so is almost certainly the lowest estimate possible, by the way. They certainly cost us money.
Most of those costs would be there regardless of the moncarchy.
Still have to upkeep historical buildings, still need to accommodate nationals among other costs.
And we don’t know what the other option could cost, it may cost more since we don’t have established accommodations.
It’s not as simple as you seem to think, those costs wouldn’t just go away….

Stop moving the goalposts.
