    Thats actually just untrue. We became far wealthier and more powerful after WW2 thanks to our imperial endeavors and lack of real imperial competition. The period of isolationism before was necessary for building the productive forces required to maintain an empire.

    I fucking wish.

    Do these fucking mindless windowlicking conservatives and blue-maga neoliberals not fucking realize, that the amount of money and resources it would take to give gender-affirming therapy, care and treatments to everyone who wants them, is such an infinitesimally small amount of money in the grand scheme of things?!

    It’s like a fucking rounding error at most, compared to the stupid and evil horseshit that this fascist country spends money on.

      The people who put out these narratives do realize that, for them it’s just another excuse to further demonize marginalized people while absolving themselves of blame.

      But their target audience for the most part doesn’t. There are a lot of people in the US who are very receptive to this kind of argument and really do believe it, because a) they are poorly educated and don’t really understand how any of this works, and b) it gives them something easy to blame which they were already looking for reasons not to like, while maintaining the illusion that the system itself is not fundamentally the problem, it’s merely been “hijacked” by bad actors. It’s something people want to believe because if it were true it would validate their bigotries and it would mean that their problems are easy to fix.

    This semi-recent obsession with trans people is really weird… I know life for us wasn’t great way back when but weren’t they writing newspaper articles about the marvels of science transitioning people?
