    Hijacking for something useful.

If just 5% of the general election votes for US POTUS went to a third party, then their platform will be on every ballot in the following election, which would attract a quality candidate.

Assuming that’s a leftist platform, what effect would this have on the two major party platforms and the current ratchet effect?

If a “leftist” political candidate got 5% of the vote, that could force politicians to make better conditions for the working class, but ultimately I think the ruling class could easily ignore it. I also think that spend the money and labor time on running a leftist candidate would be better spent doing almost anything else with the labor and money

No candidate or merit comes without prerequisites of ballot access. The platform would have to get the votes despite a low quality candidate.

that could force politicians to make better conditions for the working class, but ultimately I think the ruling class could easily ignore it

A bunch of people just found out that a bunch of others support murder as a means of change. That’s probably because we’ve been denied education. That’s not going to magically disappear because the ruling class sticks their head in the sand.

I also think that spend the money and labor time on running a leftist candidate would be better spent doing almost anything else with the labor and money

I agree. But, there’s a vast majority of people that aren’t going to magically give up on their electoral means. Most of them don’t even understand how the system works.
