After years of reddit/twitter/facebook propping up fascism/bigotry with algorithms & bots I’m honestly surprised and relieved to be in an online space that clearly rejects their ideology.

They can have reddit/facebook/twitter. AFAIC the only way to reach some of these people is to leave them alone long enough to realize on their own.

Lemmy.world admins are doing an amazing job dealing with everything. Their recent decision to defederate from exploding heads (or whatever its called) really goes to show that they’re in it for the right reasons.

Just keep in mind that banning people who are wrong does not change their mind or reduce their number. The only way to change anything is to actually engage and correct them if they’re wrong.

No, characters like that aren’t here to have their minds changed. They’re here to stir the shit, and we have no obligation to make room for them.

Platforming fascists spreads fascism. Yes, banhammer and defederate them! Don’t let hate spread.

It only spreads fascism if you’re unable to refute them. Are your arguments against it that weak?

There are some that are just too far gone to be saved, and if they refuse to listen to reason, then we politely yet firmly show them the door.

Sometimes. Other times that’s just what they want, to be given a voice and to waste your time and to feel legitimized by the engagement. It’s 100% fine to be intolerant of intolerance, it’s the only thing that holds a tolerant society together.

Ah yes. It’s such a shame that they force you to engage with them. If only there was a tool to allow you to ignore them. Or maybe if you had the constitution to do so.

If they are banned, it reduces their voice, which reduces the number of people they can influence. You might not change their mind, but you might stop them corrupting others.
