I wish my fellow Britts the very best in the outcome of those elections. And by best what I truly mean is left.

Kisses from France. We’re with you guys.

I’m sorry guys but I don’t think I can vote today. I just don’t have it in me to fly to Britain, get citizenship and then vote. Maybe next time. I’m really sorry.

It’s easy to dodge the politics at work on election day.

“Where were you between 10am and 5pm?”
      ‘Voting. Big queue.’ burp

As a French I only learned recently from a Londoner coworker how you call your national days off.

      “Bank holidays”

      Why?

Anyway, good luck from the bottom of my heart.

As the name would imply, the banks had to legally close. It took over pretty much every singular holiday like may day for example

I understand, but I’m kind of stuck by what’s implied. Like “money doesn’t make money today so everyone can stay home because the bank decides”

In France they are called “jour férié” from the old French “foirié”, literally “fair day”

Same in India. Wonder where we got it from…

Bank holidays are when banks are closed for business.

There are other holidays when schools or some other establishments might be closed but banks are open.

Well, sometimes I wonder why half of Africa speaks French… so I get your point. Sorry for that…

Are they still called bank holidays or do they have another name?

I do love how Rishi “Green Card” Sunak scheduled the election for American Independence Day. What are the odds that he uses his new* independence to move to California before the month’s out?

I live in the only longstanding Labour constituency in Scotland; their only competition is the SNP. I’m a member of another party but the constitutional question basically overrides everything… kind of annoying to be bounced into voting for a specific party but I guess the longstanding MP has been doing a good job in my opinion.

I’ve done it for years since they changed my polling station without me realising and it was a scramble to make it to the other one on time.

Reminds me of the time I saved my Duolingo streak literally at 23:59:59. The app glitched out and displayed it as extended for both the day I did it on and the day the streak screen rendered on. A refresh of the app showed that it only counted for the previous day, so it worked regardless 🤣

Not really. In the UK we don’t vote for a prime minister. We vote for a single person to represent our constituency.

The mechanics are different but it makes no difference whatsoever to the sentiment. Everything Carlin says about American politics is entirely applicable to British politics.

Title: George Carlin Doesn’t Vote. Reaction: Idiot.

Subtitle: George carlin speaks the truth, Voting Is another way to keep you in a closed distracted bubble. Reaction: George Carlin is working to bring about the end of democracy in the USA. Clearly he doesn’t believe in it. I do.
