From Wikipedia: Lemmy is free and open-source software for running self-hosted social news aggregation and discussion forums
If you don’t want to be on a platform that aggregates social news, Lemmy probably isn’t the right place for you.
Your best bet would be to create a community called “gaming discussions” for example, and restrict link posts.
Theres like multiple threads with either super mario rpg remake or super mario wonder or i saw nintendo direct like 10 times.
Aggregation is cool and all but there is a line when its link spamming.
But i found.a workaround :)
Posting shit that has already been posted is a nuisance no matter if it’s a link or “OC”. The tenth person asking “what’s your favorite game?” or “how do I get past this one boss?” is just as pointless.
Sharing links and discussing them is the core use case of Reddit and Lemmy. Lemmy even calls itself a “link aggregator”.
Maybe future Lemmy clients will allow you to filter out keywords, which might help. I used to do something similar on Reddit with Infinity or Apollo (I forget which). Was great for avoiding all the Ukraine War articles.
No, but you could start a list of magazines/sublemmies that are devoted to producing original content.
