It’s more like
Choose genuine reaction
Choose option that please them the most
It’s like they expect you to put on a mask and behave in a way that best fits the situation and adopt a different, uh, persona for the situation. But, like, not just in combat. Which is really weird, especially with all the themes of masks (5), shape shifting (5), negotiating differently with different demon types (series-wide), shadow selves (4), evoker symbolism (3), etc.
I like it tho. It raises the stake of your choices and it feels good when you choose what you want to do instead of the correct answer anyway.
Isn’t that like ignoring weaknesses in battle and just doing what looks cool?
This perfectly sums up why I couldn’t get into Persona beyond the music. The characters don’t feel even remotely real, just purely fiction. No one reacts normally or intuitively. I have a hard enough time figuring out what thing to say at what time for people to begin with. In Persona those rules are out the window and I got so frustrated second guessing what they’d react like.
It helps to realize that you don’t always need to go for the optimal. It usually just take an extra day if you don’t choose the “correct answer”.
For the main party I agree, but I couldn’t max the Sun when I played P5 because he isn’t available every night and I chose less than optimal dialog
For P5R I made sure to follow a guide for those type of characters
I still had a lot of fun tho
