Google has added support for end-to-end encryption for all chats using RCS in their own app, Google Messages. End-to-end encryption is not a feature of RCS specified by GSMA.
This is the “Embrace-Extend-Extinguish” strategy. They’re already two thirds of the way there! They just forgot for other people to adopt their “open standard” before snuffing it out.
And Jibe is a Google company. Either you send your messages to other people over their servers, or you don’t get any encryption at all:
