RIVIERE-AU-RENARD, Que. – Quebec’s premier is defending his government’s decision to spend up to $7 million on two NHL pre-season games as opposition parties decry what they say is a...
I mean he’s not simply just paying for 2 pre-season games. He’s trying to bring a professional team to Quebec. So is it a waste of $7M, probably. But if you were trying to get your own team this is probably the route you’re gonna have to take. If successful, the returns will certainly be more than the money spent
If you think the Nhl will relocate/allocate a team to Québec because they gave the Kings $7M, you’re delusional. There’s not a million people in Québec and there are multiple big metro areas in the USA that could host a team (hello Houston). As long as bettman is commissioner, they will never have à team.
Also, Legault is not doing that to help bring a team. He’s pandering to the hopes of Québec people. He’s doing that because he’s Falling in the polls in that area after backpedaling on digging a tunnel to the South shore and subsequently losing a partial élection in Québec city.
While this could be a profitable enterprise, Legault is not running the province with the surplus necessary to make this kind of gambles. The house is on fire and he is looking at building a pool in the backyard.

The returns to whom? The billionaire team owners?
To the ‘economy!’
aka. rich people’s boat and house fund.
