I read this in Ben Shapiro’s voice
Aww, did someone get sad sad when their favourite christofascist caught the bad words on teh interwebs? It’s ok booboo, Benny is still here and he’s still making all the lady parts dwy. Don’t you listen to the naughty haters!
But that has nothing to do with capital. My point is that we would be making these advances regardless of GDP or the value of the NYSE or whatever. Capitalism does not drive innovation is what I’m saying to you.
Ok fair enough. I am not familiar with the American academic legal system. I do not appreciate being likened to the “Rogan crowd”.
The fact about it being a professional qualification rather than an academic one stands, then, I take it?
Meh, JD is an entry-level law qualification: “in Canada, it is considered a second-entry bachelor’s degree.” [Wikipedia] In any case, it’s a professional qualification, not an academic one.
Shapiro only has a B.A.
Peterson is fully qualified to talk on psychological markers for alcoholism, and a broad range of clinical psychology, and not much else.
They are both (educated) bullshit merchants, not intellectuals. Intellectuals are honest.
Nice work! Does the uncertainty come from error bars in the observed trajectory? I would’ve thought an asteroid’s path is pretty easy to pinpoint with enough information.
The industrial revolution happened because of technological advances, not the other way around. The economic model changed because of basic human greed. Scientific breakthroughs happen with or without financial incentive because of basic human curiosity.
The world would absolutely be better if we hadn’t been ravaging the atmosphere and ecosystems for 300 years. Do you think cars, factories, the internet make the world a better place? For who? The people who own these things benefit while the rest of us clamour for space and calories. Fuck capitalism.
Technology advanced before capitalism for the few hundred thousand years or so that humans were around. Ingenuity and provenance - standing on the shoulders of giants, drives innovation, not free market competition. Capitalism or not, we would still have science. And without capitalism, I believe we would spend a fair bit more of our time on it, instead of chasing green bits of paper.
Did I say Nazis are infiltrating beer? If I did it was a typo, I’ve not intentionally mentioned beer afaik.
I’m glad i gave you the benefit of the doubt :)
That’s gone over my head old chum. Care to explain?
Is it that the whole place is insane, or is it more likely you are wrong? There would have to be some explanation as to why everyone in this whole place has the same wrong idea. As far as I’m aware Lemmy doesn’t ask questions about your view on nazi subcultures during sign up so it can’t be that. Do you have any explanation for your conspiracy theory, or is it in fact more likely that your view is flawed. Just by logic you should be able to see this.
You might be approaching this question from the wrong angle. Let me restate the argument the OP is making:
Fascism is an ideology which ultimately solely worships power.
To make this palatable for the inevitable powerless from whom they draw their power, the fascists appropriate other ideologies and political viewpoints that are convenient and claim to be ideologically pure when they are not; in this way fascism is a form of populism.
Fascists therefore have to be relatable to the powerless. Culture is necessary. The Nazis were extraordinarily well-dressed for example, and their guns, tanks and motorbikes etc. looked really really cool.
Culture is a form of power. People listen to songs and mull the lyrics. Film changes the watcher. So it is in the best interests of fascists to have a strong message delivered via consumable culture.
FASCISTS ATTEMPT TO INFILTRATE EXISTING CULTURE BY INSERTING PRO-FASCIST MESSAGING INTO ALREADY-POPULAR MEDIA. There are so many examples of this happening that you shouldn’t be ignorant of this fact. If left unchecked, fascism will spread through a subculture. See: football hooliganism in Europe, or gun culture in America. An important thing to point out here is that, while not all european football hooligans are fascists, the culture has grown more fascist over time. Same for any fascist incursion into culture.
WE THEREFORE NEED TO PUSH BACK AGAINST FASCIST CULTURAL APPROPRIATION. This is often successful, since people fucking hate fascists. And it’s easy to do, because pretty much any song, story, clothing etc is way cooler without the fascist undertones, so just drop the fascist bit and you’ve got something people will like better. Ask Hugo Boss if you don’t believe me.
Now is that any clearer?
Wow, was going to say pretty much exactly this. Thank you.
Good question.
I don’t like to put words in your mouth, but it seems to me that your point is something along the lines of “Nazis don’t actually steal culture”?
No, it’s not a fallacy. It’s an observation, a demonstrable fact, that Nazis try to appropriate cultures. Punk is a great example of that. The very essence of the original Nazis was to appropriate the culture of patriotism and twist it into a genocidal worldview. It’s very important with the world as it currently is, that you understand how fascism works. If you are arguing in good faith here and not an actual nazi propagandist (sorry it’s impossible to tell) then you really do need to read a bit more about it. There’s not much more I can tell you really.
Fascists appropriate culture in an effort to swell their ranks
I’ll take your imitation as flattering.
It’s the entire point about Nazi appropriation of subcultures that you’re missing, not any single point I’ve made.
Yes it is. I can compare gala apples to kanzi apples.
The reason so many people are arguing with you about it is that you are wrong. You should accept that first, and then you can grow as a person. It’s quite liberating.
Ah so you’re missing the point then. Is it ignorance or purposeful, I wonder.
Then you need to do a little bit of reading and then come back.
I wish more people realised this. Well said comrade.
