This points out something that irks me: how right-wingers continually claim to be “nationalists,” and how leftists let them do it. Right-wing nationalism is a sham and a con game. They sell out the people, make them live in poverty, and ensure that the nation is completely dependent on foreign business interests – but claim that it’s “real patriotism” because you’re allowed to say dumb racist shit on twitter or something. And their idea of what their nation should be is always imported, some second-hand version of the USA or the British Empire.

Communists build up the nation, and find for it a path of development based on its own unique history, culture, and traditions. They’re far better nationalists than any fascist has ever been.

Yeah same here, also with patriotism. It take me to (not very original) conclusion that only socialists are patriots, even those that loudly denounce any ideas of patiotism and nationalism.

Fun fact: for example, if we know them by their fruits, by far most successful polish nationalist in history was Stalin.

That’s why we call them ‘vendepatrias’ (nation seller) and ‘malinchistas’ (historical figure that sided with conquistadores).

Ayup. It’s something I’ve been wondering a lot in regards to Russian empire and USSR. Both in terms of pure economical development and in terms of national representation.

      Warning: hot take incoming.

If you look at surnames of the Empire’s ruling classes, what the media is now trying to call “elite”, you’ll notice a lot of Polish and German names. Conversely, if you look at RSFSR leadership, it’s largely Russian or Ukrainian surnames. Also plenty of Jewish names in science and technology (daily reminder that Jews were legally deprecated in the Empire). In the republics you see a surge of local surnames.

So if anything, the Soviets had done more for Russian nationalism than actual, self described “Russian nationalists”.

Wonder what the usual suspects from lemmy would say. Oh, right, they’ll just blame it on Russia and pretend this wasn’t the plan to begin with

Who needs an entire commercial sea port when you could have half of a HIMARS launcher instead? Or 100 cluster bombs? Think of all the future dead Ukranian children that sea port could buy!

I mean, have you seen what was done with industry in former USSR? They used to make lasers in the Baltics. Lasers! Now they’re buying kitty litter for fuel.

And let me guess, the libs and fascists (bit redundant, I know) somehow blame it on the Evil Genocidal Communist Menace?

IIRC they blame it on “Russia weaponizing energy”. And yes, the “ebil Soviet opression”
