Mann is known for the hockey stick graph, where he merged a whole series of paleoclimate proxy records with the thermometer-based temperature data. This has been confirmed and refined repeatedly over the years by other researchers.
Hotez says he’s glad Mann is fighting back in court. But he doesn’t think a bunch of lawsuits is a sustainable solution. And he says he wants to keep working in the lab.
“We have a new human hookworm vaccine that’ll come online soon,” he says, “That’s how I want to spend my time. I don’t want to spend my day making cold calls to plaintiff lawyers.”
Brandolini’s law comes to mind. It’s such a ridiculous waste of time and money but these people are funded by billionaires to waste our time and money with FUD so that we never get around to regulating them.

I personally know a climate scientist who came under attack. This was about 15 years ago. He was followed by private investigators who also did things like dig through his garbage. They did everything possible to ruin his life. They did everything possible to frighten and personally smear him, and by secondary effect make others afraid to work in the area.
