A Columbia University professor says spiritual beliefs can decrease our rates of anxiety and depression. I needed to understand how she came to these conclusions.

    Where was the science? It looks like the entire article is her anecdote.

    Didn’t read the article, but just wanted to say spirituality isn’t tied down to religion. Good music, nature, cuddling with a pet, meditation, even reflecting on the past; all have given me feels akin to what I would have attributed to god/the holy ghost back in my religious days.

    I don’t know that I would try to argue they’re necessary, but I do sometimes seek out some quiet alone time to just appreciate life

      I still haven’t figured out what ‘spirituality’ is supposed to mean. It’s a word used in so many vague, fuzzy, and often contradictory ways that it seems to be basically meaningless. Mostly it seems it’s used as a rough synonym for ‘emotion’, usually the emotions of awe and wonder. So sure, I agree that healthy emotions are good for our mental health. That is unsurprising.
