Earlier this week, Unity Technologies announced the next iteration of its Unity Engine, Unity 6, and shared a tech demo video from it.

The tech may remain sound but what studio would trust them after the stunt they pulled this year? They could change the terms of service at any time and you’d watch your projected revenue go up in smoke when they decide they deserve 10% of your annual revenue.

Less features, worse service, unreliable reputation. Unity is dead. Which is concerning, because it’s never good to put all eggs in a single basket.

I don’t think a game engine needs feature parity with Unreal, it just needs to be easier to get in and make something. The learning curve with Unreal is very steep and Unity’s has historically been… well, less steep (arguably?).

Unity has other problems to solve for though. Like undoing the damage from their ex-CEO.
